The most important attribute of a good portrait is that it captures some individualism in the subject.   To help achieve that it's vitally important you be yourself and so we never ask you to strike a particular pose or adopt an unnatural expression.  We want to photograph you being, well, you. We want to photograph you in a way that says something about you, not about us.  We don't have any preconceived ideas about how your portrait should look, we just want honest photographs of you, how you want to be seen.  Simple.
